What Necessities You Should Have in Your Car To Make It Through the Summer

items in your car for the summerSummer is here. That means it is time to make some changes. Put those sweaters and jackets toward the back of your closet and bust out the t-shirts and shorts. There are also things you should adjust with your vehicle. You may be spending long periods of time inside your car, and you do not want to be stuck in a hot vehicle for potentially hours at a time in an emergency or traffic stall. Here are the essentials you should keep inside your car during the hot summer months.

Water

A full water bottle is a must. In the event you get stuck somewhere, you do not want to risk getting dehydrated. It is advisable to get a reusable bottle so that you can refill it whenever you get a chance.

Sunglasses

It is wise to have two pairs of sunglasses: one you can walk around with, and another to keep in your vehicle. That way if the sun ever gets in your line of sight, you can put the glasses on so you do not have to squint for extended periods of time.

Insulated Cooler

Using reusable bags for when you go grocery shopping is great. During the summer, regular bags can still cause your food to get excessively hot even if you are going directly home. It can be worth it to invest in some insulated bags or an insulated cooler, so when you purchase milk or frozen foods, you can keep them cool during transit.

Phone Charger

Everyone has a cell phone these days. In the event your car breaks down or you end up stranded somewhere, you want to be able to call for help. You just need to make sure you do not actually use your phone while you are driving.

First Aid Kit

Car accidents and other incidents can occur on the road. Although it will be no substitute for getting professional medical attention when you need it, a first aid kit can still be useful for addressing small wounds or other minor ailments.

Jumper Cables

You never know when your battery might die on you. You do not want to rely on other vehicles having jumper cables of their own. Additionally, if you see a car stranded somewhere, then you can be the Good Samaritan by offering your cables to help.

Snacks

Keep non-perishable foods in your car in case you end up stranded somewhere. Snacks such as granola bars or dried fruit can be stored in your car for months at a time, and they will keep you full in case you cannot reach any other food sources for a while.

Flashlight

If a problem were to ever occur to your vehicle at night, you would want to be able to see what you are doing. Keeping a flashlight readily available will be a great asset if you ever need to change a tire or perform routine maintenance on the side of the road.

Sunscreen

It can be a real inconvenience if you are venturing to the wilderness for a day and forget to pack sunscreen. Always keep a bottle in your car to protect your skin from the sun’s harsh UV rays.  so that you do not end up with a sunburn.

Emergency Money

Keep a few bills in your glove compartment so that you have some cash at hand when you need it. It can come in handy if you come across vending machines or if you need to tip a tow truck service.

You may never have an emergency in your vehicle, but in the event that something happens, you will be prepared.
