Store Spotlight: Meet our Team in Centennial Hills

Auto maintenance and repair is like visiting the doctor’s office – whether you’re sick or simply having your annual physical. We here at Sun Auto Service understand this all too well, and know you would prefer your car be on the road instead of in a service center. Well, we want the exact same thing for you which is why we strive to get your vehicle back on the road quickly and safely.

With your maintenance schedule in hand, all you need now is a team of automotive experts who can keep up with the services your car needs. You’ve found one in Terry Stump and his staff at the Sun Auto Service Centennial Hills location. We recently sat down with Terry to get his thoughts on why he enjoys working for Sun Auto, and what advice he would give to customers like you. Here’s what he had to say:

  1. How long have you been in the automotive repair industry?
I have been in the automotive repair business for over 20 years.
  2. How did you get your start?
I started out as an ATV/watercraft assemblyman. In 1997, we moved to Las Vegas. I have worked for Nissan, Chrysler, and Toyota, to name a few, and I have been with Sun Auto Service for years now.
  3. What’s your favorite auto repair to complete?
I enjoy taking care of any repair needs, none are too small or too big. I enjoy and take pride in fixing our customers’ car issues. I love knowing when we are repairing their vehicle that they can get to where they need to go safely.
  4. What’s your favorite type of vehicle to make repairs on?
Make and model of vehicle don’t matter to me as much as taking care of each customer’s vehicle as if it were my own. We take pride in each customer’s repair to ensure safety and the best repair quality as possible. We take pride in the fact that we are the alternative to the dealer, not sacrificing quality, but being a better value to the customer’s budget.
  5. What are the qualities a Sun Auto Service technician possesses?
Professionalism, caring and ASE certified are some of the qualities we look at before hiring technicians with Sun Auto Service. The ability to fix and repair vehicles the first time is just as important. We look to see the technician’s references and quality of repair work before we hire and add to our excellent team.
  6. What type of training do your technicians need to complete? What’s included in this training?
Training is always an ongoing task in automotive repair. Vehicles are changing and becoming more complicated, as is the technology. As fast as we are learning, vehicles are getting more sophisticated, so updated training classes are a necessity for us to keep up-to-date with these changes as well as staying up-to-date with our diagnostic equipment.
  7. What’s the most commonly asked question you get about automotive repair?
Why is this repair or service needed? There are many different factors to answering this question. Sometimes there are safety reasons for repairing the vehicle, sometimes maintenance may prevent major repairs from having to be done. We advise customers that what’s in their best interest to avoid costly repairs down the road and/or the reason the repair is needed.
  8. If you could dismiss one myth about automotive maintenance/repair, what would that be?
Fluid maintenance. This is probably the most overlooked maintenance besides oil. Your vehicle has transmission, power steering, coolant and brake fluid that should be replaced at times either by mileage or time, depending on the manufacture of your vehicle. These are necessary to ensure proper lubrication of these parts. Most of the high-dollar repairs are to these components when they have been overlooked by customers. It’s important to follow your manufacturer’s maintenance schedule.
  9. What is your favorite part of the job? Your favorite part about working for Sun Auto Service?
I enjoy resolving customer issues. Vehicles tend to be the second highest monthly expense. Customers can appreciate that we are the alternative to the dealer and can repair their vehicle the same way with the same parts as the dealer, just at a more reasonable price. And being an A+ rated with the Better Business Bureau, you know you have the best repair at the best price. I love that we are family owned and appreciated for how we handle our customers. Without our customers returning for all their vehicle needs, we wouldn’t be able to enjoy the success of our continued growth in the Las Vegas Valley.
  10. What’s the number one tip you would provide to car owners about maintaining their vehicle?
Keep your vehicle’s records! Put your vehicle on a scheduled time for maintenance, just as you would for lawn maintenance, doctors’ visits, and haircuts, to name a few.  It is imperative to keep your vehicle in tiptop shape to reduce repair costs by regularly maintaining your vehicle and staying up-to-date with manufacturer’s recommended maintenance. Maintenance is generally less expensive than holding off and having to repair your vehicle.

Here at Sun Auto Service, we take pride in being able to offer dealership-quality service at competitive prices. We’ll keep your vehicle running just like new while still leaving you with enough money to keep the gas tank full.

There’s no great mystery to avoiding expensive auto repairs. You simply need to find a technician you can trust to handle your regularly scheduled maintenance when it’s due. Terry and the rest of his team at our Centennial Hills location stand ready to help make this a reality. Let their experience and skill keep your car out of the shop and on the road where it belongs.
