Road Trip from Vegas to Sedona this Winter!

After the holiday season passes, you may find yourself in a little slump. Instead of giving into the winter doldrums, why not plan a road trip? You can sneak away from Vegas and get behind the wheel to see the sights from home to Sedona. The drive alone is breathtaking, but you can enjoy some winter fun along the way.

An Engineering Feat

Head south on Highway 93 until you get to the Hoover Dam area, where the Colorado River meets Lake Mead. If you have never stopped to take a gander at the dam, it is worth your time. Be sure to give a little love to the new concrete arch of the Colorado River Bridge. That’s two man-made marvels you can enjoy from the same vantage point.

Hello, Old Friend

While you continue your way south, you may want to take a quick detour near Kingman to drive down Route 66. This iconic American road may not have the same charm as it did in its heyday, but it has beautiful scenery and a big check mark on many people’s bucket lists.

Pick up I-40 and continue along through gorgeous northern Arizona to Flagstaff. Be sure to check the weather report beforehand so you can prepare for any possible winter storms. The main roads are quickly cleared, but you still may want to stop to try out some of the winter sports that are popular in the area. Cross-country skiing and snowshoeing are not your usual Vegas activities, so take advantage of the terrain while you’re among the majestic ponderosa pines.

Canyon Bound

Take a break from the interstate and head down State Route 89 for the last leg of your drive. You’ll find yourself in the middle of breathtaking Oak Creek Canyon. This stretch of road can also be closed due to winter storms, so plan ahead to be sure you don’t miss it.

Last Stop

Finally, you’ve reached your destination. Sedona’s glorious red rocks may be a welcome sight when you are ready to stop. Get up close with a jeep tour, schedule a round of golf, hit the trails for a hike, or just unwind at one of the many spas. Everyone could use a little bit of Sedona in their lives.
