Today, we meet our auto repair team in Henderson, Nevada! Going on 10 years in the industry, shop manager Steve Clemence has seen and done just about everything. He started out parking and washing cars at an auto dealership, and now leads a team of expert auto technicians at our Sun Auto Service location on Stephanie Street, just off W. Horizon Ridge Parkway.
Steve sat down with us to talk about how he got his start, what he looks for in a good technician, and what he enjoys about the auto repair business.
Question: Where did your journey in auto repair begin?
Answer: I have always been very intrigued by vehicles. Growing up, I always wanted to help my dad work on his cars. My first official job was washing and parking vehicles, but I rose quickly through the ranks to become a service advisor.
Q: Do you have a personal preference when it comes to performing repairs?
A: Call me crazy, but I love a challenge. I love diagnosing and repairing “Check Engine” lights because it is the most challenging and involved repair, in my opinion.
Q: What qualities are necessary for a Sun Auto Service technician to possess?
A: Self-motivation. Our technicians strive to be the best in the industry, and they have the drive to get there. They have to grow and evolve with the vehicles. Each year there is new technology that we have to learn and perfect so we can repair vehicles correctly the first time.
Q: What’s the most common question you receive from customers?
A: “How much does it cost?” It is my job to explain and help them understand the situation. Without this, the customer would get their car fixed but not fully understand what they bought, or even why they bought it.
Q: What do you most enjoy about working at Sun Auto Service?
A: Customer satisfaction is what I love most about my job. It’s nice to be acknowledged for a job well done. When we can put a smile on a customer’s face, it gives me such a good feeling.
Q: Can you give Nevada drivers one good tip when it comes to auto maintenance?
A: The tip is right there in the question - if you maintain your vehicle properly, you will not have to repair it as often. This goes beyond just changing the oil. The power steering fluid, brake fluid, transmission fluid, fuel system, and coolant all need to be serviced every 30,000-50,000 miles to be properly maintained.
When your odometer’s coming up on that magic number, don’t hesitate to call Sun Auto Service in Henderson. Whether you drive a hybrid or a Hummer, Steve and his team of ASE Certified technicians are always at the ready.
